Night and Day – Blu-ray

Forget about a plot, this “biography” of songwriter Cole Porter only really comes into its own with a plethora of witty and sophisticated songs and performers. Apparently when Mr Porter was asked by Warners who he would like to portray him on the screen, he chose Cary Grant. Hmmm.

With hardly any basis in factual episodes from his life, the film is left to the musical moments to give it flair and brio: and with tunes like “My Heart Belongs to Daddy’ performed by the song’s originator peppy Mary Martin, “You’re the Top” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” (Ginny Simms) and “Begin the Beguine” (Carlos Ramirez), it’s hard not to enjoy them and give the story a miss!

Alexis Smith plays Cole’s wife, Linda . Picture quality is superb, with a restoration of 4K scans from the original Technicolor camera negatives . Compared with the original DVD release, this new restoration is Night and Day!
