The provisional infantry regiment known to history as \"Merrill's Marauders\" took its name from its commander, Brigadier General Frank D. Merrill. This team of 2,400 commandos, code name \"Galahad\", fought the Japanese in Burma without support of tanks or heavy artillery, battling through 1,000 miles of almost impenetrable jungle. No other U.S. force in WWII marched as far, fought as continuously, or had to display such endurance as these swift-moving, hard-hitting foot soldiers.
