Looney Tunes Cartoons: The Complete Series Review.

Such an excellent recent purchase! Back when HBO Max first launched 6 years ago, I immediately went to watch this series. I love how Pete Browngardt, Alex Kirwan and the team at WB Animation recaptured the style of directors like Tex Avery and Bob Clampett during the 30’s and early/mid 40’s from Termite Terrace’s heyday between Leon Schlesinger Productions and Warner Bros. Cartoons Inc.

Really makes it feel like “What if these creative geniuses were still alive today?”. Sure we all love to idolize Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng and Bob McKimson, but combining their success with other directors like Avery, Clampett, Tashlin and Davis just makes it more the merrier…..or should I say Merrie Melodies? Haha

It’s even more amazing and surreal when Browngardt repeated this formula with “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie”, which was wonderful to experience in theaters.

Yeah there’s some cartoons, episodes and segments that were completed and weren’t released, and those didn’t make it onto HBO Max, Digital nor this set, but I’m glad we got what was released anyway, and there’s plenty of content to keep myself engaged with. Lots of fun.

    “That’s NOT All Folks!”

    Overall score: 10/10.

A Solid Release for a Solid Update to the Looney Tunes

This release of the HBO Max series looks as good as it ever will and certainly better than it does on streaming. Warner Archive has done a nice job putting all the episodes on Blu-ray. It's a shame they weren't able to include any of the unreleased shorts, but that doesn't harm this release at all.

For those who aren't aware, these are not the classic shorts of that range from the 1930s to the 1960s. These are newly created shorts for HBO Max that began streaming in 2020. Your mileage may vary when it comes to your enjoyment, but overall, the shorts are solid. They are certainly very different tonally from the shorts of the last century, but they still feel like the Looney Tunes. They feel like they were made by people who loved these iconic characters. Give them a shot.

As for packaging and shipping? As is usual for MovieZyng, it was good. I wish they'd use a box for even one item instead of a bubble mailer, but I have to say, the mailer felt secure, and the discs were secure.
