Random Harvest

Random Harvest has always been a personal favourite of mine, and I am so pleased that Warner Archive has release this on bluray. Based on the novel by James Hilton, Colman plays Charles, a World War I veteran suffering from amnesia, who meets and falls in love with Paula, played by the beautiful Greer Garson. This would have to be one of Garson's best performances which is definitely saying something considering that she always delivers a solid performance in each movie that she appears in. With solid direction from Mervyn LeRoy, this is MGM melodrama at its absolute best. A truly beautiful movie with two wonderful performances. Susan Peters as Kitty is another standout in this movie. Her performance is truly beautiful. Warner Archive has delivered yet another fantastic restoration. The black and white picture quality looks truly pristine and the audio quality is solid. This is a must own and yet another fantastic restoration from Warner Archive. One of my favourite movies gets a royal treatment.

Random Harvest was released the same year as Greer Garson's other huge hit, Mrs. Miniver. Even though she would win the Oscar for Mrs. Miniver, Garson always said Random Harvest was her favorite of her films - I agree with her assessment. Ronald Colman and she make a great pair, and this was a massive hit for MGM. The remastering is stellar, as is typical of the Warner Archive. Let this film take you back to the golden age of romance.

Thoroughly engaging and captivating movie! And the film has never looked better in this blu ray release!

Ronald Colman and Greer Garson are a class act but it is Greer Garson and her performance that take this to a whole new level. You really feel her pain and the agony of her torment.

Based on James Hilton’s novel, this is classic golden age cinema! They simply just don’t make them like this anymore!

Random Harvest is one of those unforgettable Hollywood romances that perfectly captures the elegance, emotion and romanticism of the studio era. A beautifully crafted and deeply moving film, with Ronald Colman and Greer Garson giving wonderful performances.

The Warner Archive Blu-ray offers a very good presentation, allowing the film’s atmosphere and classic cinematography to shine. A perfect choice for lovers of old Hollywood and sophisticated romantic dramas.
