Strange Cargo

Joan Crawford and Clark Gable always worked well together, and there work here in Strange Cargo is no exception. Directed by Frank Borzage, the plot follows a group of convicts that have escaped from Devil's Island. Upon escaping, they come under the influence of an unusual Christ-like figure. If the plot sounds absurd, well, it kind of is, but it's a movie that it extremely entertaining. The movie has a great supporting case, including Ian Hunter, Paul Lukas and Peter Lorre (who is always a great addition to any movie that he appears in). The bluray restoration from Warner Archive is another winner. The black and white cinematography looks sumptuous and the audio quality is excellent. This is definitely another one to add to the collection. Thank you Warner Archive. More Joan Crawford releases please!!

Loved this movie - had never seen it before and it was great. So wonderful to see these early dramas / actors. Real depth of storytelling here - extremely rare in Hollywood films of the present day. I am collecting pre-eighty's films almost exclusively now.
