Sheriff John Higgins (John Wayne) goes into prospecting after he thinks he's killed his best friend in a shoot out with some robbers. Now an ex lawman, Higgins meets his dead pal's sister and helps her run her ranch. All seems fine until she finds out about his past. Then it's up to Higgins to unravel the mystery of his old friend's death.
