Bette Davis plays the warm, intelligent Louise Elliott, who loses her heart to a charming ne'er-do-well (Errol Flynn) who marries then deserts her. It takes the pandemonium of the San Francisco earthquake and two years of heartache to reunite them. Anita Louise & Jane Bryan co-star as Louise's sisters, whose own marital trials add more hankies to this prestige melodrama bookended by the 1904 and 1908 Presidential elections and enriched by a nod to the dawning women's movement.

    Superb Melodrama

    The Sisters is a typically well-made 'prestige' drama of the era, considerably elevated by the star power of its two leads, who, for all their differences on set, combined superbly on screen. Another stellar Warner Archive presentation.

    Bette Davis Shines In This Movie From Warner Brothers

    Better Davis and Errol Flynn make a fantastic duo in this melodrama from 1938. Both Davis and Flynn were at the top of there game during this period. Warner Archive's bluray release ensures that this gem of a movie gets a new lease of life. The restoration is truly flawless. This is Warner Brothers melodrama at its best. A must own for all movie buffs!

    Bette battles the San Francisco earthquake

    Warner Archive features their star, Bette Davis in an Edwardian melodrama, co-starring with dashing Errol Flynn. More of a melodrama with a hint of womens’ suffrage, the print is exemplary with crisp image quality and an excellent supporting cast. Not first rate Bette, but any Bette is more than fascinating to watch on screen!
