The Five Man Army

Directed by an American, written by an Italian, and released in the U.S. by MGM to capitalize on the world phenomenon that was the Spaghetti Western boom, this is pretty decent. Don Taylor, the director, can’t quite get as down and dirty as an Italian filmmaker would, and many of the landscapes and set locations aren’t captured in the epic, almost surreal way that Leone or Corbucci or many others managed to do. Taylor and company are just too Hollywood to loosen up. But there’s plenty of action and Argento’s script keeps things interesting. Not bad.
