At the Circus

It might not match their previous films at MGM (let alone their earlier efforts at Paramount), but At the Circus certainly has its moments, including the memorable 'Lydia, the Tattooed Lady' number and a very funny, typically chaotic finale. I thought the Blu-ray looked excellent.

1939 brought a new Marx Brothers film from MGM - “At the Circus”. Usual zany comedy routines, interspersed with musical numbers, I don’t consider this the best of the brothers by a long chalk but any Marx Brothers film must be worth a watch at least. The usual thin plot is used to hang their routines on, and assorted songs (by tenor Kenny Baker), along with support by the redoubtable Eve Arden and the legendary Margaret Dumont make this almost a classic. But not quite…..

It's great to finally have At The Circus in my collection on bluray. I'm hoping that Warner Archive release Go West and The Big Store as well. Once again, Warner Archive have done a great job in restoring both the audio and visual quality. This movie has never looked better. Classic Marx Brothers!!!!! Highly recommended.
