Crime Wave – Blu-ray

You really can't go wrong with a movie starring Sterling Hayden (badly jonesing because he's quitting smoking), the lovely Phyllis Kirk, hoofer Gene Nelson doing a terrific dramatic role for a change (a la Dick Powell in 1944), the greasy and grimy (in a non-automotive way) Ted de Corsia, an up-and-comer named Charles Buchinsky (but you know his last name as Bronson) who's happily sent off to kill Jay Novello, an ex-con and now a vet nursing a dog back to health, with appearances by Dub Taylor and the one and only Timothy Carey. Put them all together in a film with a commentary track by Eddie Muller and James Ellroy and you have one gem of a picture, directed by Andre de Toth, eyepatch in place and divorce papers from Veronica Lake in his back pocket. The plot is simple, the execution is brisk, the photography is B&W at its finest, and the cars in the movie are great. You'll wonder why you didn't watch this years ago, but you'll be glad you can now watch it anytime.

"Crime Wave" get the action started immediately! There is a rawness to the film, almost a documentary style. The acting is feels "real" as well.....there are no really big name actors(what the directory wanted) and they come off as "well worn" people who hare not that sympathetic to each other.

Also, get to see Sterling Hayden in a lead role too!
