Forbidden Hollywood Collection Volume 2

Five classic films from the era before the Hays Code stepped in and censored the heck out of Hollywood. “The Divorcee”, “A Free Soul”, “Three On a Match”, “Female”, “Night Nurse”. I purchased this to replace my original set of DVDs which suffered the dreaded Warner Archive disc rot (usually discs manufactured between 2005 and 2007). Clamshell packaging now, instead of the card cover and slipcase of the original.

If you have a lasting interest in Pre-codes, all ten of the volumes in the Forbidden Hollywood are worth your time and money. But if I had to rank them, Volume 2 is the stand-out - 5 films, all Pre-code essentials or near essentials. Stellar gals - Stanwyck, Chatterton, Blondell, Dovrak, Davis, Shearer, and one stand-out guy - Gable as a truly bad dude wearing a fetish-worthy black chauffeur's uniform. AND a really good documentary on Pre-code. Enjoy!
