Home On The Range (DVD)

This movie represents the end of an era to me as it is mainly remembered as being the film that ended the era of traditional hand-drawn animation at the Walt Disney Studios, though the company would revive it one more time for the Princess and the Frog.

While this is not a classic by any means, it is still not the worst of the Disney’s traditional animated features and I enjoyed this far better than the animated movie that preceded this, Brother Bear, or the Princess and the Frog.

Upon rewatching, the backgrounds impressed me immensely. In fact they are stunning! This is a look you just don’t get nowadays with CG animation and it made me realise how much I miss traditional animation.

It’s not the strongest storyline, but the energy and visual appeal certainly make up for it. Especially the exuberant voice performances by Randy Quaid and Cuba Gooding Jr.

I first watched this movie with low expectations, not thinking I would enjoy it, especially after being highly disappointed Brother Bear. But it is a movie that may be worth revisiting.
