Never On Sunday – DVD

Never On Sunday was quite an hot item when it was released in 1960. It didn’t have approval from the MPAA and was condemned by the Catholic Legion of Decency. Apparently, prostitutes weren’t supposed to be happy/. It became an international hit and Melina Mecouri, Jules Dassin (best Direction) were nominated for Academy Awards while the song won best song. It’s a mixture of Pygmalion and The Trojan Women (the prostitutes go on strike.) Mecouri is beautiful and puts a lot of life in her although Jules Dassin who plays the philosopher trying to show her the evils of her ways is annoying and his acting is over the top. Overall, it left me with a smile on my face. Definitely, worth a look.
