John Garfield and Ida Lupino star in the big-screen adaptation of Irwin Shaws play "The Gentle People," a pre-World War II allegory warning of the seductive allure and danger inherent in pretending the looming danger of fascism could be ignored.     Excellent Restoration

    This splendid film noir looks stellar on this new Blu-ray restoration from Warner Archive. This is undoubtedly one of the best looking film noir titles on Blu-ray.

    Foggy drama

    Obviously based on a stage play, this Noir-ish drama stars Ida Lupino and John Garfield, the latter being outstandingly nasty in this. Nice, also, to see Aline MacMahon as Ida’s mother, an actress who always seemed to me to be underused at Warners.

    Stagey but well-acted on the whole.

    Out of the Fog - With amazing clarity

    As we sat and watched this gorgeous BluRay we marveled that this film is 85 years old and loos like new. The transfer is phenomenal with deep blacks, very well controlled grain and stunning clarity. This restoration of a minor noir is a gem.
