Released on June 17, 1933, Chesterfield Pictures' Strange People used the same sets built by Charles "Danny" Hall for James Whale's classic The Old Dark House the year prior. Majestic and Universal would also shoot The Vampire Bat and Secret of the Blue Room there in 1933. Appearing in an early role is acclaimed actor Walter Brennan. Afterwards he would become a popular presence in major studio pictures, and would win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor a record three times, for Come and Get It (1936), Kentucky (1938) and The Westerner (1940). Michael Visaroff is instantly recognizable to horror fans for his role as the innkeeper in Tod Browning's Dracula (1931). Director Richard Thorpe had an over 40-year career in Hollywood, mostly spent at MGM. His filmography includes entries in the popular Tarzan and Thin Man series, the historical dramas Ivanhoe and The Prisoner of Zenda (both 1952), and the Elvis Presley vehicle Jailhouse Rock (1957).
