The gleam in his eye matches that of his drawn sword. Errol Flynn, the greatest of swashbuckling stars, triumphs again in The Master of Ballantrae as Jamie Durisdeer, a heroic Highlander-turned-pirate in a colorful version of Robert Louis Stevenson's masterwork of gallantry. William Keighley delayed his retirement from moviemaking to guide this lavish adventure shot on location in Scotland, the Cornwall section of England and Sicily, by two-time Oscar winner Jack Cardiff. En garde!

    Mid Tier Errol.

It's not Errol's best film by any means, but it's far from his worst.

    Past Prime Time

Flynn is woefully past his prime and can’t carry a swashbuckler like he use to. The supporting characters hold one’s interest leave you wishing this solid B picture wasn’t C class.

Fantastic transfer of a fantastic film

Another WAC home run. Absolutely impeccable transfer of Errol Flynn’s last great film. WAC has given us almost all of his best films now, can’t wait to see which they choose to tackle next.

A new film to me ...

I took a chance on this one and bought it cold having read reviews, and thought I't would be a keeper. I was not disappointed. For it's time, it was fun in that Flynn-Robin Hood Mode, and the restoration was for me, the real star.....eye popping.
