The Race To Alaska (DVD)

The Race to Alaska is a visceral film - a nail-biting, humorous account of everyday heroes who push themselves to the brink on a 750 mile, engineless boat race through the Pacific Northwest, up the Inside Passage to Alaska. Mixing raw, first person footage with vast aerials and in-depth interviews The Race to Alaska tells the story of the race's improbable inception and the epic journey of those who answer its call. It may be the most complex and beautiful racecourse on Earth - a landscape freshly carved by glaciers, burnished by salt and wind. Coastal mountains meet deep, icy water churning with fierce currents. Boats break, teams drop out, racers fix shattered masts on the fly. Leap-frogging from racer to racer, boat to boat, the film immerses the audience in this epic journey. From the quirky to the sublime, from Olympic athletes to high schoolers, the characters in this film show that there's no one way to do the hardest thing you've ever done.
