The Rebel Set

Tucker the Butcher rules his Beat club with an iron fist and the aid of con-man Sidney. Determined to "direct a masterpiece of crime," Tucker recruits mama's boy Leeland, would-be actor John and alcoholic novelist Ray. Tucker believes the three losers will become winners when empowered with the chance to finally score big. He sends them to Chicago to stick up an armored car. But the heist leaves behind a trail of double crosses and death.

The Rebel Set combines subversive humor and tense crime action to create a cinematic time capsule of the Beatnik era. Director Gene Fowler is best remembered for the iconic I Was A Teenage Werewolf (1957), noted in the annals of horror for setting a metaphor for the scariness of male puberty within the context of a drive-in genre picture. Fowler also directed I Married A Monster From Outer Space (1958), and edited dozens of pictures, including Hangmen Also Die (1943), It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) and Monte Walsh (1970).
