Johnny Hines launched his film career in 1914 with Lincoln, The Lover (1914). A comedic silent-film actor, Hines was best known for his appearance as Torchy in the two-reel shorts series of the same name. New Jersey native Faire Binney's first film was Sporting Life (1918), which featured both Binney and her sister, Constance, in its cast. She went on to star in silents such as Here Comes the Bride (1919) with John Barrymore. Frank Losee was an established Broadway actor before appearing on the silver screen in 1915. Two of his most notable films were Ashes of Embers (1916) and D.W. Griffith's Orphans of the Storm (1921). Charles Hines, brother of Johnny Hines as well as actor Samuel E. Hines, directed several silent films during the 1920s, including two "Torchy" pictures and Conductor 1492 (1924).
