Frank "Spig" Wead (John Wayne) is instrumental in advancing the cause of American air power, but he endures a troubled personal life, becoming estranged from his wife, Minnie (Maureen O'Hara) after the death of their baby. During a bout of drinking, he tumbles down the stairs of his home and is paralyzed. With the help of happy-go-lucky Navy mechanic "Jughead" Carson (Dan Dailey), Wead regains some use of his legs and eventually restores meaning to his life.

    Wayne Ford & O'Hara Magic

Very connecting film with the magic Quiet Man team in this 1957 personal film based on John Ford's experiences during the war. John Wayne has never been better and the film - strangely neglected on release. NY Times summed it up: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has given it a color production to the nines. "The Wings of Eagles" may not soar to great heights, but it certainly covers a lot of water and ground. ...fun and sentiment.

Entertaining old fashioned John Ford move magic with a mind boggling blu ray upgrade: the picture is beautiful. Throw your DVD out.

    Lesser known John Wayne film.

I liked this film by Jogn Wayne. It's not your usual John Wayne film. His legs are paralyzed and he must deal with consequences. Maureen O'Hara co stars.
