Featuring Cary Grant in his screen debut, This is the Night is a sparkling comedy of sexual innuendo and amorous infidelity. Claire (Thelma Todd) plots to rendezvous with her lover Gerald (Roland Young) in Venice for the weekend. When her husband Stephen (Grant) returns home unexpectedly, plans are hastily rearranged for a group outing joined by Gerald's pal Bunny (Charlie Ruggles) and Germaine (Lily Damita), a penniless woman hired to pose as Gerald's wife.     Evey cinephile should watch this

    If you are a Cary Grant fan then this a film to watch, not only because it is his debut performance, but also because he displays his potential as a romantic comedy lead actor.

    It is a pre-code film so the story line is a bit racier than would have been allowed a few years later. The plot is a bit convoluted in the way thaat the best screwball comedies are, with plenty of laughs and a satisfying ending. Very well done.
